If
you receive a traffic ticket in Greene County, you may eligible
to participate in the Court's First Offender Program.
This program works as follows.
Persons
who do not have any moving violations on their driving record
within the previous three (3) years may attend the Defensive
Driving Class offered by the District Court Probation
Office and pay a civil penalty in order to keep their ticket
from appearing on their driving record. The Court will suspend
imposition of any sentence on the traffic offense for a period
of one year. If no other moving violations are reported during
this one year period, then the case is dismissed and will
never appear on the Defendant's driving record.
It
is the sole obligation of the person participating
in the First Offender's Program to provide proof to the District
Court Clerk that they have indeed attended the Defensive Driving
class. Failure to provide this proof within 90 days, or failure
to pay the civil penalty in full, will result in the offense
appearing on that person's driving record.
If
you are eligible for, and wish to participate in, the Court's
First Offender's Program, you may do so by completing a form
at the District Court Clerk's Office during normal business
hours (8:00 a.m. until 4:30p.m. ) at any time before the Court
date set forth on your ticket or citation. In order to make
the process even faster, you may download the First
Offender Plea Form from this web site, fill it out
in advance, and present same to the Clerk at her office any
time prior to your scheduled Court date.
